This inexpensive Italian horror sets a new record for the number of Hollywood hits from which it borrows its themes, and it still finds time to explore that old Italian standby: witch re-incarnation. Surprisingly it's rather good, conjuring a sinister atmosphere amidst drab and ugly surroundings (cf. Nero veneziano) despite many tacky or ridiculous moments.

Marisa plays the bride brought back to the standard decaying (and probably accursed) gothic pile, seat of her husband's family for generations. Neither of this couple are in the first flush of youth yet still they have been suffering 'honeymoon nerves'. We join them at their second attempt, and a very ill-omened one too, chappie spying from a curtained alcove whilst Marisa undresses. I think he startled her; heck she even said so. Nevertheless I reckon she was pleasantly surprised at the way he took command of the situation. Approaching a little shyly at first like a distinguished grey-haired schoolboy, he ramps things up steadily until he startles Marisa again, but this time for the right reasons. He knows how to pace himself this one; now would be a bad time to find out about a previously undiagnosed heart condition.

The second clip finds Marisa alone, in bed, at midnight. Precisely the time to come over all 'Katell Laennec' (it's not just for teenagers you know). For those who don't get the reference, this sorry exhibition is more about demonic rape and impregnation than plain old self abuse. Still, not an easy thing to speak to her mother about is it? As we saw in the first clip, Marisa knows how to make the most of her big scenes.
