A review and pictures of actress Susanne Widl naked in "Unsichtbare Gegner".
An occasional actress in theatre and cinema, Susanne has long been a leading personality in the Vienna avante-garde.
# Unsichtbare Gegner (Valie Export, Austria, 1977) (featuring Susanne Widl as Anna)
with Peter Weibel, Josef Plavec, Monica Helfer-Friedrich, Helke Sander, Dominick Dusek, Herbert Schmid and Edward Neversal
One of those feminist tracts on sexuality which were merely a cover for female exhibitionists to indulge their masochistic erotic fantasies in a politically acceptable way. I quite like them. In this one the female protagonist, a photographer, puts her increasing disgust at the violence and ugliness of modern life down to an invasion by alien mind parasites - rather than for example down to her own politics and lifestyle choices. Ho hum. Anyway, it's not done without a certain humour and visual aesthetic based on reflections and indirections, a style that would later be used to better effect in Die Praxis der Liebe (1985).
The first clip is an extended sequence of Susanne at home with her plonker of a boyfriend, a montaged love scene followed by some playfulness in the bathroom about drying the lady's hair properly - all of it.
The second clip is a interestingly-staged dream sequence involving walking through the city on ice skates. Not much is visible but it is still oddly erotic. The final clip has Susanne making herself a moustache from clippings of her pubic hair, followed by juxtapositions of kitchen chores with her beauty routine.
