Typical rural period drama from the Baltic state of Latvia. Our young hero is as usual living amongst a village full of beautiful young women. Which will he choose for a bride? a) the pretty shy blonde, b) the horsey brunette with money, or c) the earthy type who knows her way up to the hay loft and will even save him the bother of taking his own trousers down?

Our man being a sorry self-pitying specimen plumps for c), Zane. He doesn't marry her straight away of course, preferring to dither until she's a widow with three barefoot little urchins to support. At which point he discovers the downside to this class of woman: they tend to be rather fickle, bedding the nearest spare hunk on a whim. Leaving himself cuckolded outside in a snowstorm tapping politely on the window...
