A pleasant moment from a melancholy Czech romance about an ageing professor of fine art. A denizen of ivory towers gets to attend a better class of 'do' at work than would an honest mechanic. Instead of ogling a girl jumping out of a cake while getting plastered in the staff canteen he can appreciate a muse stepping out of a portrait during drinks in the life studio. Which of course is where Monika comes in. Her diaphanous gown hides nothing except the potential for a little embarrassment as she kisses the visiting dignitary whom the occasion honours. I doubt the chap who brings a gift of cabbages has more than the most tenuous right to be there, but at least he's making the most of an admirably flagrant case of gatecrashing.
