A loose compilation of extracts from stories by Gogol found in the collection Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka. Svetlana plays a bride-to-be in two stories May Night and A Terrible Vengeance, characters being re-used in a way apt to cause confusion in a reviewer not really understanding what he's looking at.

Some people might complain it's naïve to think that's really Svetlana as the bride being undressed for her husband by two village women in the traditional wedding night ritual. But as long as no one can prove otherwise I'm going to go along with the idea as it's a beautiful sequence and it'd be a shame to pass it by.
