A member of a prosperous London family, Florinda is plagued by alternately lustful and murderous dreams of her glamorous party-animal neighbour Anita Strindberg. This is one of the all-time classics of the giallo genre. Always some way from the Anglophone mainstream despite frequent British and American actors and settings, for those who've never heard of it, giallo refers to a short-lived type of hyper-stylised Italian suspense thriller, over-sexed and bloodthirsty to a fetishistic degree, revolving around imagery of voyeurism and paranoia, usually with strong female protagonists or supporting characters. Think of Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954) as a tame sort of prototype.

The opening dream sequence sees Florinda pushing her way through a crowded train which, in the way of erotic dreams, suddenly becomes a corridor heaving with naked young people. The scene switches to her neighbour's home, Florinda feather-falling on the bed wearing only her heavy fur coat. The polite lesbian scene that follows is wonderfully sensual in the way that she simply allows herself to be left standing naked and entirely vulnerable to the other woman's desires.

Florinda sees a shrink to see if talking therapy helps. The second clip is sort of Round 2 of the Bolkan/Strindberg dream-match. Our plucky lass is about to turn the tables and teach a certain young madam exactly how to make an unholy racket at all hours and poison her dreams with girl-on-girl action scenes. Therapy? How about 'stab stab stab stab stab and relax'? But does it honestly make you feel better?
