Familiar tale from Spain about Cristina growing up a little too quickly for the liking of her doting mother. But there's a dark tinge to the drama as the teenager has been reading her Erica Jong and developed a taste for voyeurism and self degradation. Early on she suffers a 'sharking' from a handsome young lad at the swimming pool - actually a nasty sexual assault necessitating the arrival of her mother and careful dabbing at the affected area in the shower at home.
So Cristina avoids said handsome young lad in future does she? Not a bit of it; she can't stay away from him in fact. Edgy encounters on public transport on the way to guitar lessons climax in her dark and bumpy defloration in the toilet of a train. Not surprisingly by the end of the film she is in such a state that she takes off all her clothes and climbs on to the roof of her house, sitting on the tiles naked threatening to jump. This causes a massive, massive commotion in the street below (most of which I've edited out), and the girl's long-suffering mother is dragged miles out of her comfort zone, but when handsome young lad's reaction is to hurriedly button his trousers and leg it Cristina gives up the ghost and consents to be rescued. A rescue that takes no fewer than two dozen men at any one time, plus a lone woman to point out that covering her up with a blanket should have been the first step rather than the last.
